As noted in yesterday’s regular Tuesday letter, our firm is “rallying around” some key concepts that have always been part of my approach to managing money, but have become crystal clear to me in recent years.
THE SUNGARDEN “ROAR” APPROACH: AT A GLANCE
Avoid Big Loss (ABL) is the #1 rule
After that’s accounted for, try to make as much as we can
Do so by “playing offense and defense at the same time”
That approach is governed by the proprietary ROAR Score
The strategy can be run with as few as 2 ETFs (1 for offense, 1 for defense)
Or, using a portfolio of many stocks/bonds/ETFs/options
Most past performance prior to the start of 2022 has to be viewed with the perspective that before that time, inflation and higher interest rates were much lower than they are today. Thus, our formal record for the 2-ETF “ROAR” portfolio starts 1/1/22.
We have managed and continue to manage a significant portion of our portfolio using this approach, both via a 2-ETF account, and applying the concept across my broader portfolio (ETF/options/stocks/bonds).
We think that the ROAR Score is Sungarden’s differentiator in an investment industry saturated with hype and traditional approaches that no longer work. Because markets have changed, we need to change with them.
Offense/Defense, tactical rotation between them, and careful decisions about what goes in each of those 2 “buckets” is modern investing, at least to us!
The ROAR Score and one portfolio based on it are currently available via the free subscription to ETFYourself.com. Additional strategy, ETF research and a portfolio creation tool based on the ROAR Score is available via the premium version of ETFYourself.com (currently $40/month or $400/year).

Thank you! That’s what we are going for. Do more with less.
Nice brief intro to the ROAR score for those interested...you say a lot without saying a lot as it speaks for itself.
